ABSTRACT
The project is titled “strategies used in managing small business in Nigeria: a survey of selected small scale business in Enugu Metropolis”. The main objectives of study were to find out the best strategic use in managing small scale business with a view to achieving social- economic development. Specifically, the objectives are to establish how diversification as a management strategy has contributed to the effective management of small scale business. Also, to find out whether monitoring the market plan as a management strategic has led to the survival of small business and to investigate whether copy engineering is an effective management strategy for small business. The research method adopted in this research work is survey method. The population of the study is 90 and the sample size is 75, and the research instrument used was questionnaire administration. Using simple percentage and tabulation in analyzing the data, the researcher found out that small scale business can be of immense help in improving the living standard of Nigerians. Also, diversification as a management strategy for managing small scale business is effective. Moreso, it was found out that copy engineering and monitory market plan as managing strategy are effective. Therefore, the researcher concluded that small scale businesses concern can serve as a catalyst for stimulating Nigeria economic growth and development. Hence, the researcher recommended that there is need for government to assist small scale businesses financially through cheap borrowing. Furthermore, the researcher suggested that there is urgent need to restructure our educational system so as to make it more practical -oriented which will help the students in acquisition of skills that will help them to be self-reliant.
