INTRODUCTION
The economic survey report is a report prepared by the co-operative inspector, a researcher that reveals fact about a proposed cooperative society that is applying for registration.
Economic survey report is an integrated part of the condition necessary for registration of a cooperative organization. It is important in every kind of cooperative organization be it producers, marketers, thrift and loans society, consumer cooperatives and multi-purpose etc.
For a cooperative organization to serve its member probably it must be viable.
Feasibility studies must be carried out so that members of the society and its officers know the basic rudiment of the study.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This is just a concise description of the issue that needs to be addressed by a problem solving team. Government or the affected bodies should be presented to them (or created by them). Before they try to solve the problem, where bringing together with a problem statement.
Here the affected body is cooperative society or organization, listed below is the problems or difficulties experienced by the proposed organization (cooperative society) especially here in Nigeria.
• Problems of financing the organization
• Lack of educated managements/members
• Proximity problem
• Indifferent in financial institution (difficulties in loan acquisition)
• High level of apathy (lack of cooperative spirit)
• Embezzlement of fund by the apex body etc.
Any registered cooperative societies do enjoy economic advantages derived from the registration.
When a cooperative society is registered, it becomes a cooperate body. It can then deal with a third party because of the bond and the right they have gained as a registered cooperative organization under government following the necessary procedure provided and now the law can therefore guide them.
So it is worthwhile for an existing cooperative organization to be registered to attract government interest into the organization, thus giving them incentives, like grant, gift, loan, etc. this is also needful and conditions necessary for registration.
LITERATURE REVIEW
THE MEANING OF ECONOMIC SURVEY REPORT
Manual for co-operative field staff (1966) opts that an economic survey report is prepared by a government co-operative field workers in charge of a particular area for the director of cooperative societies at state capital respect of an application for registration.
The contents of economic survey report include:
GEOGRAPHICAL DETAIL
i. Maps showing the major road that leads to the society.
ii. Site of the proposed society.
iii. Natural Resource
iv. Occupation of the people and production technology
v. Size of the population.
SOCIAL DETAIL
1. History of co-operative organization in the area where the proposed society is.
2. Factors that support or hinders co-operative department.
3. Custom and culture of the people.
4. Social infrastructure like health centers, social service, industries etc.
BUSINESS DETAIL
i. Economic justification: Economic needs to be served. Is it commonly felt? Will the co-operative commend widespread support?
ii. Technical feasibility: Project description: How society proposes to function, technology and production process to be employed.
