ABSTRACT
This study examines the proper use and management of instructional materials for English language teaching in some selected secondary schools in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
An intensive review of related literature was carried out to throw more light in the problem under investigation. Research questions were formulated to guide the investigation. The questionnaire titled instructional materials for English language teaching was designed for the study. The secondary school in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State was randomly selected for the study. The questionnaires were administered on 40 randomly selected English teachers in the sample schools.
The frequencies of the responses were found and were converted into percentage.
The finding revealed that only English language teacher’s are mostly involved in the proper use of instructional materials tense to make the student active in English language lessons and the lesson become more interesting and pleasurable. Most instructional materials for English language teaching in the school are grossly inadequate.
The available improvised instructional materials cannot go round the students and consequently not properly use.
Some instructional materials could not be improvised due to financial constraints, lack of time and lack of competent to improvised based on the findings, it is recommended that English language teacher need to identify relevant instructional materials and try to improvise them while in- service courses should be regularly organize for the English language teacher on how to determine the relevant instructional materials and how to improve them for the effective teaching of the subject.
