ABSTRACT
The study is on the Role of Nigerian Stock Exchange in the Development of Nigerian Economy. The researcher in order to accomplish this wants to ascertain how the Nigerian Stock Exchange has tribute to the development of the Nigerian Economy. The Nigerian Stock Exchange functions as an Institution for sourcing capital development through the issue of public debt instruments. It also acts as the control meeting place for members to buy and sell existing stock and shares and for granting quotations to the new issues through the provisions of opportunities for rasing new or fresh capital.
In order to achieve this purpose, an empirical survey and library research were carried out. The sources of data used included both primary and secondary. Primary sources of data are the administration of questionnaires and oral interviews. While the secondary sources of data include Textbooks, Newspapers, journals and Seminar Papers.
The researcher reveals that the Nigerian Stock Exchange have carried increased and efficient capital formation successfully in the areas of the second tier Securities market (SSM), Securities of Domestic National Debt: Financing Oil and Gas Industries: Privatization and internationalization of the stock market.
Furthermore, it was found out that the instruments listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange are the Federal Government Development Stocks, the state Government Stocks and Bonds; Local or Municipal Development Stock, the Commercial and Industrial loan stocks and Debentures and the Equity stocks and shares.
In Conclusion, recommendations were made to the Government, the Nigerian stock Exchange market and the participants for improved performance of all the parties.
