ABSTRACT
Life itself is a risk likewise every other important activities of man inclusive of financial transactions and deliberations. This is as a result of the stake of parties involved in one way or the other in certain financial and business transactions.
It is in the light of the above assertions that this project research work is determined to examine the potential usefulness of adopting a systematic methodology for the analysis and control of risks (risk management) within the financial sector of the country.
This study shall also empirically analyse the performance of financial institutions like banks in the Nigerian economy.
The resulting findings, insights and recommendations shall be extended to other financial institutions though the scope of the study was directly on the banking sector. Therefore the point is made that given the current wave of de-regulation in Nigeria economy especially in the banking sector and the rapid process of financial and marketing drifts resulting in financial institutions being forced to rely more on managerial competencies as well as other intra-organisational factors for survival and success. This work suggested that effective risk analysis and control strategies should be an integral aspect of any sensible corporate plan in the Nigerian financial institution.
The structure of this research study is patterned into five distinct chapters as usual- Chapter1 through to chapter5. All the necessary and standard parts as well as sections needed were all included for clear analysis and presentation of the gathered data and information. Findings, recommendations, conclusions and appendices were the main sections of the last chapter.
