An Examination Of The Activities Of Agricultural Cooperative Societies In Economic Development Of Nkanu West Local Government Area (a Study Of Selected Agricultural Cooperative Societies In Nkanu West Local Government Area Of Enugu State)

The aim of this project work is to examine the roles of Agricultural activities in economic development under cooperative societies. Using the following selected farmer’s cooperative society ltd. Reg. NO EC 1010, Agbede Akpugo farmer’s multi purpose cooperative society ltd. Reg No EC 1520 Agbani Nkanu farmers multi-purpose co-operative society ltd Reg NO 520 and Obe Nkanu women farmers multi-purpose cooperative society Ltd. Reg NO AN 1260 Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. In the course of this study, it has been noted that Agricultural cooperatives society has assisted (aided) a lot in solving multiple economic problems. Mean while, the role of Agricultural cooperative society has assisted to promote efficiency and qualitative productivity. This is because the farmers cooperative act as media for proving their resources, via. Land, Labour and capital of small farmers’ holders together in order take advantage of large scale production, for extending credit and other input factor and for organizing collective marketing of their products in order to avoid the higher profit capitalists. This study equally observed some pronounced achievement in Enugu state which include installation of 15kv leister, public telephone, both health center and bore hole etc from the above fact, it was found out that cooperative enterprise has played a significant role in agricultural development in Enugu state with its benefits. Finally, some problems of dishonesty, non-compliancy, and distrust etc. have been a bane to good performance of some cooperative. I therefore recommend that public enlightment, campaign, cooperative education and talk show on the importance of cooperative societies should be created to facilitate cooperative movement in Nigeria.
