ABSTRACT
Premarital sex leading to abortion is a common phenomenon among youths especially the undergraduate which has led to several physiological and sociological health issues such as sepsis, uterine damage, and sometimes infertility with social stigma and broken homes. The study was conducted among undergraduate students of Olabisi Onabanjo University to elicit information about the knowledge of ill health consequences of premarital sex and abortion. Two hundred and forty participants were randomly selected from three faculties of the university. Self structured, validated and trial tested questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Multiple regression and t-test were the statistics used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the youths understand that premarital sex causes and predispose to ill health conditions: (r2=0.007, p<0.05) also Abortion was said to cause and predispose to ill health (r2=0.055,p<0.05). Also, there is no significant difference in the perception of both male and female students on premarital sex and abortion as causes and predisposing factors, of ill health conditions using t-test analysis.
It is therefore recommended that since the knowledge is existing, there is need for further education on behavioral change towards a healthy sexuality education among the youths.
